One of our best-kept secrets? Fall might just be the best time to visit the Manitowoc Farmers Market. There’s something extra special about crisp mornings, cozy sweaters, the smell of fresh-baked goodies, and tables filled with the best of the autumn harvest.
As the season winds down, the market takes on a slower, cozier feel, but there is still plenty to discover. If you’re planning a fall visit, here are a few things to know!
Come hungry for the harvest.
Fall brings some of the year's best produce. Depending on the week, you can expect to find pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, kale, lettuce, and other cool-weather greens. You may also find fall favorites like apples, pears, grapes, and late-season berries. It’s the perfect time to stock up for soups, roasting, baking, and all your favorite fall recipes.
Decorating starts at the market.
If you’re looking to add a little autumn charm to your home, be sure to take a stroll through our craft vendors! We have so many talented local crafters bringing fall signs, wreaths, home decor, candles, seasonal decorations, and other handmade goodies. Inventory can change from week to week, so you never know what fall find you might take home with you!
Dress for the weather.
As we get closer to the end of the season, you may notice a little more chill in the air and a less crowded market than you’d see during the height of summer. The temperature at the market can be little cooler than the rest of Manitowoc, due to its proximity to Lake Michigan. Bring a jacket, wear layers, and maybe grab your favorite cozy hat.
Arrive early for the best selection.
Just like in the summer, some of your favorite fall products can go quickly. If you’re looking for a specific vegetable, baked good, or seasonal item, arriving earlier gives you the best chance of finding exactly what you’re looking for. The better the product, the quicker they sell!
Come for the produce, stay for the cozy morning.
Grab a coffee, pick up some fresh ingredients for dinner, treat yourself to a baked good, and take a walk along the riverfront. Fall is a wonderful time to slow down and enjoy the market before the season comes to an end.
The Manitowoc Farmers Market is more than just a place to shop for fresh, local produce. There are plenty of activities and events throughout the season, rotating on a weekly basis. For the most up-to-date information, check out the event page.
